Suze took a walk in the beautiful mountains one sunny day. She walked without seeing the gorgeous road that went up there. The road wound its way for miles disappearing over the horizon a blur on the edge of her vision. Suze was struck by how beautiful was the scene and she had a strong desire to paint it. And so began Suze's exciting new life painting mountain roads.
To master painting for road safety Suze knew it would take a lot of practice. She spent hours studying how the road curled and the way the tall trees grew on either side of it. She worked on mixing varied shades of green to represent the different types of trees using various browns for the road. It made her so happy to be working on a painting slowly coming to life with every stroke of her brush.
It was not so simple to paint the pitcher in the gorgeous winding roads to the mountains. What Suze had learned was she had to pay close attention to all the small stuff. She observed where the shadows fell on the road at different times of day and how the pale sun shone through the leaves of the trees. She used soft brushstrokes to recreate the texture of the night road painting and the rough bark of the trees in her painting — giving the feel that the painting is real. Every detail was important, and Suze sweated to get it right.
Suze also found some key techniques that helped give her mountain road paintings a more realistic appearance. She learned to use lighter colors in the background to simulate depth as if some sections of the road were farther back. This country road painting technique added great interest to her paintings. She wanted her art to come alive, so she added fun details, such as birds in the sky and colorful flowers at the side of the road.
When Suze spent time outdoors she found inspiration in nature for her mountain road paintings. She would take long peaceful walks around the mountains enjoying everything that she saw and heard around her. She would sometimes sit on the side of the road and sketch what she saw on her walks. She took special care to note the angles of light on the leaves or the sound of the soft wind that grazed the trees. Every sketch made her appreciate the beauty of nature more and helped her to think of it while painting.
For Suze painting mountain roads was more than just a portrait; it was a way to connect closely with the terrain. Painting a mountain road scene for example transported her back to that peaceful serene place. She was at peace and serenity among nature. And through her paintings Suze hoped to impart that special feeling of peace to others so they could enter that place as well.
